Agriculturist are scientists who advise farmers on soil management, breeding, animals' living conditions, crop protection, environmental sustainability, disease, and harvesting. Agriculturists are trained in general agricultural studies but usually specialize either on the job or in a master's program in one or more areas of agricultural science.

Crop specialization: crops, soil fertility and conservation, rotation management, weed and pest control, harvesting, developments in crop technology, developments in new pesticides and herbicides and market them to Canada's crop farmers.

Animal specialization: These agriculturists work with farmers in the animal production industry improve the profitability of their operations. They provide information about nutrition, breeding, living conditions and even financial management.

Farm management specialization: These agriculturists assist farmers in planning short- and long-term strategies to increase profits. They provide consultation and seminars on strategic business planning, family business dynamics, production economics, economic and business analysis, business management, multi-generation farm transfers and financial planning.

Biotechnology specialization: These agriculturists develop new plant varieties in an effort to produce stronger, more reliable food sources.

Astronomer study the movement of planets, stars, galaxies and other large objects in the universe. Their research covers such diverse fields as cosmology, galaxy formation, particle physics, planetary geology, solar physics, interstellar media and the structure of stars. They conduct research to broaden our knowledge of energy, matter and natural processes throughout the universe. They study distant galaxies and the birth and death of stars that live many light-years away.

Astronomers spend very little time gazing at the stars but instead spend the majority of their working hours analysing data and observational material. They use a variety of ground-based and space-borne telescopes and scientific instruments to make observations of and obtain data on astronomical objects. All aspects of modern astronomy are highly technical, involving the use of state-of-the-art telescopes and detectors, and computers. Most astronomers connected with universities have teaching responsibilities and are expected to produce original research work for publication in scientific journals. They must also follow the scientific method of creating and testing theories and make sure their calculations about the cosmos are correct.

Environmental Analyst examine the impacts, costs and benefits of potential environmental policies. They measure and correct damage already done by past practices, write and enforce government regulations, and try to minimize waste. Part of their work involves consulting with scientists and researchers, public groups, local government officials and various industries. They also assist in establishing initiatives that help to inform all Canadians: individuals, communities, businesses, industries and every level of government on how they can take action to protect our environment. Analysts are environmental advisors who help create an awareness of the relationship between human activities and the natural environment.

Environmental Chemist: Most Environmental Chemists would describe themselves more specifically by the work they do. Many environmental chemists conduct research, design systems, processes and equipment for air, water and soil quality control, solid waste disposal, and the remediation of contaminated soil, air and water. They develop strategies to reduce pollution at the source and treat wastes that cannot be eliminated. Applying
